hey...

so, those push pull pots - could i use them to alternate between a fixed resistor and the variable resistor?

cheers

i think so. just put the fixed in the off position of the switch

hendriko

sweet!

so if i pull the switch up, the fixed value will be in, and if i push it down i could dial it in with the pot?
awesomeness

Have been considering this a number of times, but refrained from the idea because there a only large push pull pots, guitar size, and they hardly fit in most Hammond boxes.

Are the mini push pull pots? lower then 250k values? would be very interested...

Keep us updated if you go ahead with it!

I've seen mini pots that have a switch when you turn it fully CCW.  That might be another option.

As for if this type of pot can switch between a fixed value the answer is in theory yes it can be done but in reality it depends on the circuit, the pot's function in the circuit, and the pot's configuration. There cannot be a clear yes or no answer without more information on the circuit and the pot selected.

To be honest I think having separate switch for this function would make life easier. Switched pots a hard to get in the right configuration, to fit in a limited space enclosure, and can be hard to use.

that sounds quite interesting, any idea where to get em?

^i thought about doing it in a wah, for the Q-value for example - have a 100k pot in there, and then, in the switch, have a 68k or something so you always have that value to go back to you know

There are some here...

These guys have them in audio and linear and different sizes..

These Electo-mech ones are cool.  Illuminated pots with push button.  I bet you would need to order lots and they would be expensive.

the switched alpha pots are a bit hard to work with IMO.  when you change from the switched position to the pot actually turning, the resistance jumps a bit.  the pots might be good for an LFO control or something similar, but for an actual audio control the jump is very audible.  also, the rotation is shortened a little because of the switching space, so there's less room for the pot to turn...
