My brother plays a Strat with EMGs. To avoid the need for removing the pickguard to change batteries, he simply has the jack plate installed upside down, and the battery lives in the rout underneath it. Remove jack plate to change battery.
More dynamics????? I'm playing as loud as I can!

I don't know how he managed that , i can't fit a 9V into my compartment without being able to close up my jack !
( i flipped mine too . )

Hey I know this is an older thread but maybe I can get some interest.

I have a custom shop les paul (warren haynes "inspired by") that has a preamp from CAE built in. It is supposed to be a sort of buffer cleaner-upper so it doesnt get muddy when you roll the volume down. Problem is, I never use it because I play so much that the battery is always dead. Whenever a cable is plugged in its on. So heres what I am thinking:

install a DPDT with the power hooked up on the extra tab so I can turn it off and on with the toggle, I think I will get some pop though with the power?

install a SHO type circuit with a trimpot so I can just set it

I dont want to lose  either of my tone or volume controls so............ANYONE ELSE HAVE ANY IDEAS OR OPINIONS?

thanks in advance team

^ There are push-pull potentiometers with DPDT switches, so you don't have to drill holes. I haven't seen 3PDT ones, though, so you might need to get clever with the switching if you want to be able to switch power on and off.

Threw away both of my tone pots for a gain pot and a 3PDT switch on my strat for my blaster

My solution was to use two push-pull pots, ie two DPDT's. Hopefully this makes sense. I think it does.

What I'm relying on here is disrupting the grounds. No ground = no power can flow = no output or power consumption.

First switch up = all electronics bypassed, and no power to preamp.
First switch down = audio routed to preamp, ground is engaged so it gets power.

Second switch up = audio from preamp is sent to the output jack, ground cut to preamp #2 (SHO).
Second switch down = audio routed to SHO, ground engaged so it gets power too.

First switch down, preamp gets power.
Second switch down, SHO gets power.

tone pot out --> DPDT 1

From DPDT 1, audio either goes to output jack or preamp in.
From preamp out to DPDT 2.
From DPDT 2, either to output jack or SHO in.
From SHO out to output jack.

With no power, neither preamp nor SHO will contribute sound.

So.... sound plausible? Could be done with two DPDT switches, ie two push-pull pots.
