What list have you encountered besides the thread you listed that says schematics are banned? If anyone feels really strongly about posting something, go ahead and post it on your site. I am not banning anyone from doing whatever they want on their site.

If I don't like a link and decide it shouldn't be here, I will delete it. Simple as that.

Your chances of having your schematic links stay on here greatly improve if you use generic names and redraw any schematics yourself.

the sticky thread idea won't stop anyone from posting them or asking for them.  it might however save others from explaining the situation to them.  they can just link to that thread whenever necessary and be done with it.

Hi Andrew and Aron
Thanks for the suggestions etc.
I think you have both cleared the air and the confusion spendidly.

I have been working ( much to my wife's dismay), all weekend on a solution to the crackling gain control on the SHO mosfet boost circuit, and because I have gained so much from ALL the people here on this forum, I would like to share it. I REALLY don't mind if anyone wishes to use it for whatever purpose, be it DIY or Commercial :)
I have been simulating for over a week now, trying all sorts of ideas, many ending in failure, but tonight (well it is 11pm here in Noisyland!) I believe I have made a breakthrough.
Please be patient though, I need to build and test my idea first before I post it for all to see.(fingers, toes, and eyes crossed 8)).

I have been motivated in the first instance, by a friend who wants me to build him a fuzz/boost inside an expression pedal, to control the gain.
Like most on this site who have built or have bought a SHO, I like the way the circuit generates more and more 2nd harmonic distortion (as well as volume) as the gain control is increased. This circuit functions completely differently to Jack Orman's Mosfet boost, although at first glance it appears very similar.

Don't get me wrong - I am not knocking Jack's design ( he surely knows his stuff ;)), just pointing out that the SHO circuit functions differently.
Whereas Jack's circuit offers at least 30dB of relatively clean boost, it does not shift the bias point of the mosfet when the gain is increased. The SHO does, and this is how it is able to increase 2nd harmonic distortion as the gain is increased - and consequently sounds very Marshally in its response.
Peace and good night for now :-*

Steve, that's great that you've gotten some headway on the SHO circuit! I can't wait to see what you've come up with. For me, this whole business with trying to "improve" the SHO has been a good exercise for our collective brains and I think it stands as an excellent example of why these forums can be a great way to learn new things.

Aron, I agree with your policies 100%, if I ever seemed confrontational, it's probably because I lose my temper easily when I'm frustrated, and this whole "controversy" has frustrated me quite a bit. It just seems inane. But, whatever, I clearly see where different attitudes stand now, and I'm sure everyone has gotten a taste of mine, so I guess we can all "agree to disagree" about certain things and just go about our business without any more foolishness. I'm content to put the whole subject to rest and not beat a dead horse. I first visited this forum way back in 2000, and I'm glad to see it's still around and that there's still lots of helpful information out there. I'm taking a chill pill and checking my ego at the door, and I hope everyone else can do the same. Thanks!

P.S.
I draw all my schematics with ExpressSCH. I love it and highly recommend it! It's easy to use, and very easy to create you're own original schematic symbols.

Sorry, I can't help you, I use a PC. The Express programs are really popular on the Hoffman amp forum; maybe someone there can help.
