Hello,
I posted this on BYOC, but there aren't very many people around to answer so this seems like a good place.

I am currently in the middle of the building of a Screamer Pedal. While looking at mods on this site, I came across this one:

It looked really cool, but I do not understand how it all connects. Are the LED's connected to the 914's? and is the blue wire soldered to the LEDS but not the 914's? Could someone please clarify this for me? Could I do this instead with 3 3mm red LEDS and 3 1n34a germanium diodes instead? Which way do the LEDS go?

Also, in this diagram, where is the "ground"? Would I solder this to the base of the pedal?

I'm sorry for the stupid questions, and I know how frustrating they can be to answer but I truly appreciate all the help this forum has given me.

One side of the LED pair and one side of the diode "pair" is coupled together and that side is connected to the board. The pair of LEDs is coupled opposite of each other.

Ground i guess will be the negative side of your battery.

I looked at the hook up schematic over at BYOC and it seems that the two holes on the board called "jack" is ground, at this point it doesnt come straight from the ngative side of the battery, but comes through your input jack to prevent your battery from draining.

If some or all I,ve been writing is unclear let me know and I'll try to explain or rephrase. English is'nt my native language..

It irks me to a very great degree for BYOC to have received your money for this and then not help you fix it. I find that very irritating, much more irritating than if you'd gotten yourself into this fix.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

i like BYOC to be honest, it has great mods and stuff. I've gotten a lot of other questions answered there, so one doesn't bother me much

I guess there is more "action" on this forum than the one on BYOC, but it looks like he (byoc) is answering to tech questions.

moving on, will it work with 3 LEDS and the 1n34a diodes? and the ends of the led's, diodes and wire to the board all solder together?

jonathan perez

sure, but thats not the landgraff mod  ;)
no longer the battle of midway...(i left that band)...

i hate signatures with gear lists/crap for sale....

i am a wah pervert...ask away...

ha i know... its the new tttt4 mod (actually its from byoc)

edit: are the leds polarized? how would they go?

"will it work with 3 LEDS and the 1n34a diodes?"

My guess is it would work, but i think maybe the two LEDs on one side of the LED "pair" would clip very much of the signal?

"and the ends of the led's, diodes and wire to the board all solder together?"

Yes, if I understand you correctly this will work.

LEDs are polarized, long leg is pos side. The two you are connecting in series make sure you connect short leg to long leg. the one that goes in parallell must be opposite of the polarity of the two others-

WOW $84.99 for a clone screamer in a diecast run of the mill box?

You could buy a ts 7 and change some parts it and have money left over and a cooler petal that might have more resale value.  Plus it has the retractable pots and a cool swtich.

TS's  are so over rated IMO.
I guess maybe the web can do that to things.

The BYOC questions here make me chuckle.  maybe BYOC should help you.

Funny thing is back in the early ampage days people like me,  R.G., Jack, GFR, John and others would help with part subs what brand and type caps  and resistor value changes for more or less gain what the opamp does (IIRC Jack and R.G.posted about the recovery part first) and revoicing the TS.

Plus sockets can cause problems for effects used on the road

with all due respect, when you purchased from byoc, you paid him for tech support...I know him and he's a very good guy, and always willing to help. The questions you are asking are fairly basic though, and should probably be answered by him directly since it has to due with the construction of the pedal.

I am not exempt from this and I usually try to catch questions aimed at indyguitarist stuff here myself when it comes up, so please don't take this the wrong way. :)

However, if you are just wanting to get some ideas, look here first: http://www.diystompboxes.com/cnews/FAQ.html
