my idiot wah is very subtle?

i just built it with the help of NABO, http://aronnelson.com/gallery/NaBos-Layouts/idiot_wah_layout_001. i had to use 470k and 33k resistors to make up the 500k resistors and i don't have a 680pf cap so i used a 560pf and i don't have any 50k pots either. i'm assuming that a lot of the reason it is so subtle has to do with my subs? i also wanted to ask if anyone has put a fuzz/booster in front of it with any success? i'm thinking a soft boost with just a touch of clipping?

First, make sure you connected the 470k and 33k resistors in series. If you connected them in parallel that could certainly cause problems. Second, what value did you sub for the 50k pot?

foxfire

yeh, no the resistors are definetly in series. i used a 100k pot and thats where i'm thinking most my issue is coming from.

I don't think the 100k pot should cause the effect to be subtle although it may give the sweep a less "usable" range. Does the resonance switch have any effect?

foxfire

i think so but, i couldn't explain how or what difference if i had to. i only got to play with it for maybe 15min. before i had to get ready to watch the show on Les Paul last night so i haven't got to fiddle with much. i really wanted to check in about the subs i made to see if they might be why is it so subtle? but since i can't easily get my hands on any 500k resistors(i didn't leave any room for trimpots either) or a 680pf i don't have much choice for now.

foxfire

well i fiddled around with it for far too many hours last night. i ended up socketing the 680pf and 0.005uf caps. i forget right now what i ended up with but i get a decent sweep without any sqeeling now, and the resonence switch does make a good bit of defference. i'm not a wah-wah type of guy so i'm not sure why i'm spending so much time on it? i'm guessing i am because it's something other than a fuzz.

anyway i do like the sound of it because it doesn't have that wah-wah sound but i find it a bit hard to really hear it. i was looking at the photon filter and got to woundering if putting a buffer on the end of the idiot wah wouldn't help? (i'm still getting the hang of what buffers do) i also fell asleep last night thinking about putting either a boost with a bit of clipping or a mild fuzz in front of the idiot wah followed by the octave part of tcobretti's Octo-boost? any of that sound worth while? i really need to get a breadboard!
