GREEN FUZ

It`s in that area along with another resistor that I can`t quite place. Bottom right-hand corner. More photos please.

Limlam, to finish this off we need any markings, letters , numerals. Can you write down what you see and put it against the corresponding component.

R= resistors
C= capacitors
Q= transistors

Don`t worry about the striped resistors,I should be able to work them out myself.

I haven`t put it on the layout because I can`t quite make out where the pins are going, that and the carbon-comp resistor beside it.

Please don`t hurt me Ted.

I think it might be something like this

aron

That looks familiar.... tone bender???

jaytee

Yes looks pretty much tonebender 'inspired'. What's the idea behind the diode? Should it be the other way round?

No, the diod sets up the voltage for Ge1's bias.

...so... yeah, it should be the other way around, shouldn't it?   ???
My breadboards full right now...    :P

now just gotta get the values

Looking at it again I think it's a resistor not a diode. Might even be 1.8k. It's almost a bogstandard tonebender. I think the pots are 100k.

What do you mean? It's positive ground.
The circuit you drew won't do anything.... it certainly won't get you a negative supply from a positive one.
You can use one of the basic MAX1044 circuits to get a negative supply from a 9v. Real easy. Or you could just use a battery and not even have to worry about it.
