Does anyone know a project of a Pre-Amp + Distortion pedal?

I searched and I found nothing... It gonna be my second one, I just finished my Ross Compressor and it works just great!

I'm looking for Wah wah, octaver, chorus and a equalizer too... After I get the options I will choose one of them to be my second project.

For chorus I found that Boss CE-2, but I'm looking for something more simple.

any distortion pedal is essentially a preamp.

a preamp doesn't have to be a clean boost. if you want a combination of the two, build a clean boost or buffer and a distortion project.

when i got money and parts, i was gonna take the high gain pre amp stage out of Joe D's shocktave, and add switchable clipping diodes
that would work as a pre amp/distortion

Hmmm... I tought that might have a difference.

So, a Clean boost + Distortion = Pre amp with distortion ?

Do you know a pedal that does exacly that, I mean one pedal for both Clean boost and Distortion?

Thanks!

ambulancevoice

well, what you could do with my idea is with the clipping diode switch is switch between a pre amp and a distortion
like
switch/diodes off = pre amp
switch/diodes on = distortion

Yeah, your idea works well with a pre amp clean and distortion separately.

How does this diode/switch works?

I think would be better a project with the whole circuit, just with a SPDT switch. Is it possible?

i just built a 3 in 1 booster pedal myself. it is a lpb2 and a hogs foot switched with a spst switch and i added 3 ge diodes for clipping. to make up for the volume loss from the diodes i added another lpb2. i still need to get a 3pdt switch for the diodes and the third booster so once i get that i'll have one hell of a booster/distortion pedal.

ambulancevoice

the diode switch could be a dpdt foot switch or just a spst toggle
the switch would cut the connection bettween the diodes and ground, stopping them from clipping, and returning the pedal to a pre amp
with the dpdt foot switch, you could use the half the switch to turn of the diodes, and the other half for a LED indicator for status

btw, how cool is my new avatar! hahahah
i animated it myself :P

For a friend, I built a TS-808, with a switch to knock out the clipping diodes, so when the diodes are out, it's a preamp (with the signature mid boost) and with the diodes in, full-on OD. Also included an extra pot in the FB loop for when the diodes are out, so you can change the preamp level without effecting [sic] the OD  level.
I like amps etc.

ambulancevoice

yeah, ive heard its more of a clean boost, than a pre amp
well, really a clean boost is a pre amp
but yeah, removing the diodes altogether from a ts808 (maybe a dist +/250 too?) does make it a pre-amp/clean boost

Thank GOD! Lolz!

Does anyone knows a pedal that does exacly both parts only in one circuit? The clean and the distortion?

Mandrake754

@anyone in general: distorted or clean, it's a preamp. calling something a preamp doesn't mean you can assume it's clean. (for example, the distortion in a high gain tube amp comes mostly from 'preamp' tubes)

not that it matters, just a little fyi

@Shakal: try what others have suggested, a TS-808 with a switch to knock the clipping diodes out of the circuit. Otherwise, build a clean/treble/whatever boost circuit and then build a overdrive/distortion circuit, put 'em in one box, and add a switch to toggle which on it goes through. Really, I dont see why you don't just want to build one of each. Unless you will never want to use the clean boost and OD together, then toggling between the two in the same box could be like "channel switching" in front of an all clean amp or amp with no channel footswitch or something.

you dont have to build another overdrive/distortion next to a boost
just puy clipping diodes at the output of a boost effect and you get a distortion
