adding clipping switch to boost pedal

hey guys,
i'm thinking about trying out some switchable clipping diodes via A.C.'s "clip switch" diagram in his gallery:

i'd like to wire up a pot to control the amount of gain....  would putting a 50k pot in series between the signal and diode pair work? (as described in controlling the clipping threshold in the FAQ)
