I read the EPFM Anderton book and destroyed a Ultra-fuzz Paia kity by having to high of heat in my iron and not enough soldering capabilities in my hands. I've gotten some lessons on soldering and have been practicing. I'm ready to tackle a new project (hopefully one that works. I made a trade with GGG for the following PCBs:
May Queen booster
Mini-mixer
Orange squeezer
Nurse Quacky
Slow Gear
Ampeg Scrambler
Isolated DC power suppply
and an un specified (I asked for easy) distortion.
I think I have acquired all the necessary tools and I know I have the spirit but where do I start. Which projects are best for a total novice. Do I just pick a project and take the parts list to Small Bear and buy all the components seperately or what? I'm dying to get off on the right foot this time. Any help would be greatly appreciated by an eager beginner. Thanks.

Why not try the "Beginner" Project on the opening page of the forum? I understand it is geared to take you step by step through the whole thing so as to teach you a complete project that is workable & useful. Then you dan go from there having the experience of at least one effect under your belt. Good Luck! :icon_wink:

You can begin gathering the parts for one of the projects that you already have the PCB and practice. You can begin with the May Queen Booster, because is not dificult and you already have the PCB or try building another kit like the ones from:

B.Y.O.C. --> http://www.buildyourownclone.com/

OLC  --> http://www.olcircuits.com/index.html

GGG --> http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/

And welcome to the forum ;D.

  You are here.
  Reading here is a great resource, seeing how others work through problems is an indespensible learning tool.
  but reading 'prepared writing' by knowledgable authors [most of the 'bigger sites or pages are well written and mostly all accurate'], getting the bulk of information on various components is a great starting place, check through all the links..sift through the reads, FAQ, simple mods and tricks, how to bias Jfets, opamps etc. data sheets, GEO...keep coming back after gathering other information like terminology, try to work through a mathmatic demonstration of electronic function [GEO has plenty of electro-math] after learning 'basic-advanced' math, how to work equations, IIRC 'addition to the FAQ' has some excellent reads I saved that RG wrote.
