I'm in a position now where I'm playing a lot of guitar so I have less and less time to build pedals. There are a few pedals that really see a lot more use than all the others and I wanted to get them done on PCB (as opposed to perfboard which I always do) and also have them visually match up as much as possible. They are a Highway 89/Neoctavia combo, Neovibe, AMZ Mosfet Boost and finally, a ColourSound Wah. As I'm spending a lot of time recording, I asked John Lyons to make the PCB's for me, then also wire them up after I mailed him back the populated PCB's. I know I could have wired them up myself but I wanted them to match as much on the inside as on the outside. These will be passed down to my 8 year old boy who can now play Smoke on the Water and Sunshine of your Love. Just wanted to share my excitement about the pedal part of my rig and give a big thanks to Aron for the forum and also John for the doing the favor of adding the pro touch with the pcbs and hook up.

Also John, I know you hate the white plastic washers but I think they look pretty awesome on these pedals.

i think they look great!  great job with these.  the simple black on black is very elegant looking, in my opinion

Very pro-fesh!
I think black is the way to go with gear...it's my fav for guitars too

Awesome Pedals , & That John Lyons Does Some Killer Work , All Around , :icon_wink: Amazing !

Very very very nice looking...I need to do something like that too one of these days. I love the simplicity of a plain black box- only you know what the knobs do but that's fine, and they just look very elegant/sleek. Great stuff!

Those look great. Where did you get the little ZVex-style knobs you have on the unit that has two footswitches?

BTW, I bought the 1790's from a pedal parts supplier, already finished. John actually painted the small Mosfet Boost for me. I know I'm somewhat biased but truthfully, the best finish out of all these pedals is the one John painted for me. If I remember right, he even had to buff out one of the 1790's as it was loaded with imperfections.

I got them from a guy who is terrible at mail order. I think I ordered these, waited weeks and finally, after literally two dozen attempts to reach him by phone, finally got a hold of him to refund my money. The parts showed up a few days later. I can't remember what his co. name was but I think I recommended him (before I knew better) in one of my earlier posts.

Thanks for the plug tony! Nice to see the whole family of pedals together there.
I like the way that the Mosfet Boost turned out color and texture wise. It's a hammertone black spray paint with a spray satin polyurathane top coat. The slight texture is nice.

The washers are ok on the black boxes, kind of make little targets for stompin'.

My thoughts on the circuits:
Hwy-89 / Neo Octavia combo. (Doug Hammond/Tonepad)The 89 is a bad boy for sure, fat and heavy yet controlled and cleans up nicely with the guitar volume knob. The Neooctavia works well with the 89 after it. The octave is strong and has a few shades of grit and tonality...it gets boosted well by the 89.

The Colorsound inductorless wah is different than the typical inductor based wah. The tone isn't as hollow and vowel like but it does get a good amount of quack. If you put a 25K pot in parallel with the 100K wah pot you can get some nice and unusual sweep properties. IN one setting it sort of toggles on and off between wah and a straight sound which no other wah can do. Variable resonance is also nice to have by making the 33K resistor to ground be variable by using a 100K pot in it's place. Everything from self oscillation to a subtle wah tone.

The Mosfet Boost (jack Orman) is a classic simple booster which can really goose up a slightly dirty tube amp into distortion. It also works well to blast a fuzz or mild OD into heavy saturation.

The Neovibe (RG keen rework) is a claassic as well. Based on the Univibe. Gets you that swirly and pulsing hendrix band of gypsies/Robin Trower sound. Instant 60's vibe!

I hope you get a lot of use out of these tony. Take care

John

John and Tony...

A++++++

They look great ! It's pretty dang satisfying when you can build stuff thats as good or better then the commercially made equipment.

Great job,

All those builds look ridiculously neat. I'm a huge believer in the KISS principle, so I dig the black on black. An excellent job!
