Do You Guys Think This Design Is Too "Girly"?

My wife came up with a paint job for my AB switch, and while I like it a lot, I'm trying to decide if I think it's too girly. Would any of you avoid this switch because of the looks? Would you prefer a more "manly" design -- or would the hand-painted "boutiqueness" make it worth the purchase, assuming it lives up to your requirements, etc.?

David

I see nothing "girly" about that design.  It kind of reminds me of 1960s "op art" or "psychedelic" art.  The only thing I can say is that I might feel bad about stepping on such a pretty flower.  The advantage here is that you've come up with a highly decorative, yet functional design that is not gender-specific.

Yea like I said in the other thread, its amazing looking.  I dont think its girly at all and I think everyone would admire pedals like that on their board.  :icon_wink:

I don`t know what his demographic is but ZVEX`s designs, which yours have been compared to, has no shortage of bees, ladybirds and pussycats, without, it seems, affecting the sales adversely.

Awesome -- thanks for the thoughts! I REALLY appreciate it! I don't know if we'll ever "mass-produce" these, but I wanted to get opinions. We both really like the design, and I like it because it's something my wife came up with. I guess the bottom line should be this: this is my pedal, this is what it does, and this is the art -- if you like, I'll make you one, if not, there are plenty of ugly alternatives. :D

Thanks again for the comments!

Nah, that's not girly if you're a big limp wristed, metrosexual, birkenstock wearing, LL Bean browsing, wuss!  :icon_biggrin:

Just kidding, I couldn't help it.  In all honesty, I'd put that on my pedal board in an instant especially, if it worked well and was quiet.  Heck, I've got a heart-throb trem on my board that's wine red with little white hearts on it.  Yours is a very well done pedal.

Dont know how well this would work, if at all, but maybe you could soak the white washer in paint or dye or something to make it brown or some flowery color.  :)

Dragonfly

the design doesnt bug me, but it screams "i want to be ZVEX".

good looking pedal.

RE: the washer, I may not even keep using it. It's not totally necessary, and half the peds (or more) you see  don't use it.

RE: ZVEX, what's funny is that my wife's art has always looked like this, and she'd never even heard of ZVEX until I showed her his site yesterday. :)

I don't really feel what she's done is a knock-off or anything, and the only similarity I see is that both are hand painted. Hers, though, are little pieces of artwork, not just a painted name or whatever.

Well let's just cut right to the ONLY point of this... Your wife did it therefore you'd better like it or you're in the doghouse.  ;D

Repeat after me "Thank you honey, I love it, you're wonderful".

And, I don't think it looks "girly" but I do think it looks like a ZVEX pedal. She did a very nice job - how did she get the lines that straight?

Zvex-ish (not a bad thing) and cool. I like it.

I certainly wasn't implying that she painted it as a knockoff of ZVEX.

However, if you market them with this paintjob, the public will "think" its a ZVEX knockoff.

Personally, I dig it...your wife does cool work.

Nothing wrong with pretty.  Nothing at all.  Of course, there is a difference between how it looks in that picture, and how it will look once it is on the floor and stepped on a bit.

That's the real problem; preserving their girlish good looks so they don't start to look "military surplus".  One of the things I have to admire about the ZVex pedals is the quality of finish.  You can find a thread here, waaaaaaaaaayyyyyy back at the dawn of the millenium, that describes the steps involved in creating that finish.  Fitting all that stuff in a 1590B is child's play compared to maintaining the the graphics and finish on those pedals.

MetalGod

The paintjob is REALLY cool, but I must admit I thought it was a ZVex pedal when I first saw it.

Looks quite nice to me. I agree with the 60's vibe going on.

Plus it's always nice to have someone else do the work. Tell your wife I'm sending 20 pedals her way. Oh yeah......and I need them all finished by Monday! ;)

People generally don't like my honesty, so in this case I will go with the masses and say it's fine  :icon_razz:

ubersam

It does seem to scream "ZVEX," but only if you know how or what "ZVEX" boxes look like. Otherwise, it just has a hippie/flower-child vibe to the it, the artwork that is. Personally, not my cup of tea.

Deep wisdom above.

If you're into death metal... it may not earn you many points.

Apart from that. I think it's great. Really great, top work!

I think it's great that your wife shows enough interest to paint your pedal!
