Noisy String Wiping

  I know I could probably chalk this up to just having a high gain noisy circuit but the Jordan Bosstone clone I made seems to amplify the sound of my fingers wiping against the strings more than actuall notes or chords. The texture of the distortion is nice but its basically unusable becuase of the unbearable volume and harshness of the string wiping noise. I've encountered this in a Blue Clipper Clone I've played through as well (but didn't build). Any ideas of how to solve this in a circuit or what it could be attributed too? I have many other pedals with more gain that don't seem to have this problem.
