Greetings all!
I just recently was in communication with a few of the newer members here inquiring about adding a Tone Control to the "Crank"
by Mark Hammer. I went ahead and re-built mine as it was "gutted" for parts  :D and re-drew the layout to incorporate a Tone Control
into the existing circuit. My original idea was to just graft a Telecaster style TC into it but, I thought "what the hell", we'll make it
all "Mr. Hammer's" which really only makes sense so, added to it is the SWTC.
Both versions are now in the Gallery for your viewing pleasure!

Nice layout Mark. Very interesting circuit too. I'd been thinking about building one. How do you like how it sounds?

No, Not yet John.
It almost became my entry into the FX-X this month.
I don't know what I am going to do with it yet as it has a few small bugs to be worked out yet.

Thanks Dave!
I was afraid someone was going to ask this.... :-\
I personally am not a fan of it. I think it's okay for what it does but, lacks any type of real tonal personality.
Doesn't seem to be overly friendly with a Telecaster for producing gritty, Country tones but, being a C&W Twanger,
I am verrrryyyy picky about my "grit" and Light O/D's and Boosters in particular so, I tend to be a tougher customer
when it comes to this type of circuit.
All around it performs quite well and despite what some have said here, I recommend the build with the tone control as
I found the tone of this unit to be on the harsh side, even with the treble rolled down some on the guitar.
Note definition seems to be an issue with this build as well. I think some of the issues could be that there is some
OpAmp distortion happening in this circuit and the 5532 as seen in the schem, doesn't really make a pleasant sound when
it's being driven hard. I tried other OpAmps in my builds but, still it sounded about the same.
I initially built mine because of all the positive posts that creep up now and then PLUS, it looked like a great circuit to MOD!!  :icon_twisted:
I am a bit hesitant in the mod department too as, I don't have the time to really persue it any farther.
There is a Hi-Gainer I've worked on too ("CrankenStein!!  ;D)  but, I don't know what will become of it.
Some LOVE this circuit though so, give it a shot!
