Hi,

After doing some layouts of Transistor Boosts and OD's, I wanted to try a layout with an IC. I decided on Aron's Smash Drive Killer Version B because it's a simple, low parts count build that sounds really good. I built the Vero version from The Big Man's layout a few months ago and liked it. It's great for Hard Rock. Here is The Big Man's layout http://aronnelson.com/gallery/TheBigMan-Layouts/smashdrive.

Here is my PCB layout http://aronnelson.com/gallery/Daves-Layouts/Smash_Drive_PCB. It's not verified yet so it would be great to have some opinions on it. If you guys see anything wrong with it, please let me know and I'll fix it. Like I said, it's my first IC layout and I did it in about 20 minutes, so I'm sure it could be better.

Woops can't open it, but im sure you cant go wrong with this circuit, it is very simple. In fact this is my first FX project and i built it in 25 minutes. I love this pedal

I looked at both your layout and and The Big Man's.  LM386 pins 1 & 8 only get connected to Drive Lug 3.  Both Drive Lugs 1 & 2 should be connected.  Other than that, it looks like it'll work.

Thanks for the reply Eric.

I actually redrew the layout on my lunch break at work today. I'll post it later when I get a chance as it's on my work computer and not my home computer yet.

I just looked at The Big Mans layout and it does have 1 and 2 together. That's the way I originally built it and it does work. I looked at the schematic here http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=53832.0 and looks to me like 2 and 3 are together. Aron if you read this please let me know if I'm reading it right.

Just posted the updated layout in my gallery. http://aronnelson.com/gallery/Daves-Layouts/Smash_Drive
I haven't changed the wiring for the drive pot yet because I'm not sure about it.

You're welcome! There's more where that came from too. Watch out for the Shaka 5 coming soon.

I did have a question though. Should the Drive pot have pins 2-3 together or 1-2 together? I know I originaly built the Vero layout from the Big Man with 1-2 together, but the schematic looks like 2-3 should be together. Does it even matter?

according the the "schematic" pins 2 and 3 are connected, and 1 has the 100ohm and electro 47uf cap to ground
strange way to orientate the gain pot, but it works nonetheless
do you have pics of it Dave?

also, Aron, what does grounding pin 7 do?

Thanks ambulancevoice. That's what I thought and that's how it is on my layout. Pics are in my gallery, but I can't seem to access it right now. http://aronnelson.com/gallery/Daves-Layouts/Smash_Drive
