I have an electro cap with the leads cut. It has a black stripe on the body that has a minus on it (but doesn't make it clear which is which) One of thee leads comes out with a black ring around it. I assume this is the negative, right?

Thanks

Jeff

Hi, the negative is the one that lines up with the stripe.

if its an axial cap your talking about, look for the small indentation in and around the body of the cap before one of the leads, and that one will be the positive, and the other without the indentation is the negative
here read this if you dont understand

I know you didn't Alex, but I shouldn't have assumed he was talking about a radial cap.

I don't know why they even bother to mark the Negative side [instead of one end] of these BYOC electro's. There's just a stripe going all the way down the side, no arrow.
These particular ones it's easy to spot the + side, because there is a black plastic ring around the + lead at the end of the body, the - lead is aluminum color.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.
