Keith at BYOC is helping me through this.  I just found out that the Transistors are wrong (10806's instead of 10805's) so that is probably leading to having too much gain.

Great! In general, it's best to ask the seller to help you with troubleshooting a product.

Thanks Aron.  He was away all weekend and I was trying to get it up and running for a gig saturday night then a practice sunday evening.  Otherwise I would have waited.  Still, it took some time for us to figure out what the problem is.

jingle huh?  :lol   I'm going to call you regardless tonight.  I have some other stuff I wan't to get your opinion on as well.

It's working fine but has too much gain.  The gain is now getting slightly lower but nowhere near where it needs to be.

Do you have a CV10805 lying around?  I think that should fix the problem.

BYOC is sending me some BC109's until he can get some more 805's.  This should lower the gain but it's not optimal from what I can tell.

So I guess my observation was correct. Is there an emoticon to express smugness? ;D

"Map" = easiest way to follow the board traces.
Really HD board hides traces so the only way to follow the connections on the schematic is to trace through from one point with the DMM and find where it pops out another side.
Some PCB's you can see all traces as a 'map' on the bottom of the board, debugging boards like this is of course easier if you use following traces as a tool'.
I'd want to know if a collector is connected to say a 10k that is actually 10k, I'd look for 10k's or disregard values and search for continuity anywhere.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

I think I understand. It`s tricky with a double-sided board to work out what`s going on. I must admit I was obsessing a little bit about this post to the point where I opened the pictures of each side in Photoshop and tried to match visually where the traces connected.

You know when people write LOL and you wonder whether they really are. This picture really made me snicker to myself.

jeez, I can't type correctly today, I meant "a jingle", sheesh.  i don't have any CV10805's, but I've prolly got something that'll work in the meantime... :-*

Oh I knew what you meant.  I still think the word 'jingle' looks funny when typed out. ::)

We'll see how long it takes BYOC to send me those replacements.  If friday comes around and they still aren't here then I'll probably be giving you a call.
