What is the pupose of the chokes in the input stage of the ss wem copycat?

They will act as a low pass filter. The opposite of what a capacitor would do in the same place.

I've never seen chokes used in that position in any amp or stomp box they must be there for a some purpose, I'm sure they don't do any good tonewise.They could be there to reduce the lows to prevent distortion in the following stages.
My copycat sounds tinny compared to the orignal tone of the guitar I'm sure those chokes could be the problem.

It's a low pass filter so it will cut highs. It might be for RF or cut lower it depends on the value. Bigger inductor will cut more highs. If you want to hear what effect it has try shorting accross it. The circled network sets the playback frequency response. If it's an old copycat you may have some parts that have drifted out of spec. Especialy resistors.
