Got some Ge Trannys today some russian ones still sealed in there box MP26B black bodys millitary ones from what I have found out.

Hfe from 30~80 on hte datasheet checked a few and leakage is low  ;D

Well rangemaster is an option for some of them around say 55~75 Hfe

what about any real low gain ones down near the 30 mark?

aron

You can use them as Ge diodes or try those low gain ones in a Fuzz Face.

yh good plan, although I have the Fuzz face transistors covered already with another big batch I have  :icon_lol:

diode idea is sweet though.

I recall someone doing something to low gain trannys a while back.  using 2 together or something?  really cant remember

Do you happen to have the datasheet for these? Would you mind PMing it to me please? Cheers.

Hmmm going back a while now, I will have to hunt for it, I did get a data sheet with those transistors.  Lemme have a look

Hi
you can make a Darlington (hFE = hFE1 x hFE2), or, for lower hFE, one of those dual transistor stages with a low value resistor (10 to 100 ohms) between the emitter of Q1 and base of Q2).

as long as the leakage is low that's cool.  beware, though!  i did this a long time ago using some leaky low gain germaniums and i was left with a hissy mess...

Hi
I totally agree that a lot of noise is possible, even probable result with small signal Ge devices.
Two devices with hFE=33 will give a Darlington hFE of 1000.  That's just ridiculous.  Even with really quiet devices a useful upper limit to HFE is probably 200 or 300.
Tapering the hFE with that emitter resistor on Q1, and choosing the right device for Q1 will help a lot.
