Is anyone making a straight up clone of the old Arion SCH-1 chorus, or is it possible to mod the newer SCH-Z to SCH-1 specs?

I'm wanting to do a chorus pedal, but not a Small Clone or Boss. I'm pretty set on the Arion.

Anybody got information?

I owned an original one, bought it non-working in a big lot of pedals, totally forgot about it until I saw the prices these were making on ebay, I was like "what the... !" for an Arion pedal to make like £80 on ebay there must be something about this pedal... quick fix later...   :icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen:

I eventually gave in to the bay and sold it.  :'(

I do have a circuit from another old Arion pedal... I think it's either a flanger or a Bass Chorus... havent seen it in years. ooo thinking about it I do hope it's a bass chorus!   :icon_idea:

Not the SCH-1 ...youre thinking of the new model, which sounds VERY different.

The SCH-1 is climbing in value fairly rapidly....much like the SAD-1.

I have it, but it's not 100% complete. I have an Arion SCH-1 pedal which is being decommisioned from my pedal board soon. I hate chorus (except on my acoustic). Especially chorus like the Arion where there is no "Effect Level" type knob, just Depth, Rate and Tone. No way to dial down the effect once you've found a setting that you like.  >:(

The Danelectro Fab Chorus is great. Under $20 US.

Has a blend knob.

I think the Sch-1 and SCH-Z sound fairly close.  I have both and seem to lean towards the SCH-Z as my fav.  It seems a little fatter to me.

I have an SCH-1. It'sin non working order, My rottweiler Pissed on it one day.. and since then it hasn't worked. So, in my less experienced years I robbed a few parts from it to mod or repair other pedals, thinking this was WAAYY out of my league. So, a few days ago I decided to make an attempt at repairing it. Well, I seem to have failed. The toggle switch is toast "corrosion" so I'm trying to figure out how to wire it for stereo all of the time , but I am baffled I just can't figure it out. it did sound very different from my older ibanez chorus. The Arion has more of a growl to it, almost a flanger type of thing going on. I think they are hyped.I'm heading to GC to try one of those Fab chrus pedals, which are supposed to be very sweet sounding. I only use a chorus for a leslie effect... very minimal.
If you want to trade I'm game.

FrankB: If you're willing to part it out, I'd like to buy the battery cover and knobs off your dead SCH-1 as mine is missing those. Heck, even just the battery cover would be fine.

Please send me a private message if you're interested.  :)

They WERE $20, but they've disappeared from the market, I don't know what happened to them.

Can I buy 1 knob if you have one? I got a grey box SCH 1 that is practically mint except for 1 knob. Thanks.

And it's all BS as far as I'm concerned, typical net-lore kind of stuff. All started because some L.A. studio hotshot (can't remember his name) disclosed that he used one. So the dumpster-diving began along with all the hopes and claims of finding a pearl among the swine.

I have had an SCH-1 for at least 16 years. It's an okay chorus, does a decent fast speed sound, which is probably what a lot of the hoopla is about. Aside from that it's no big deal. I have other modulation effects I much prefer.

Scott Henderson has one. I think it's because he saw somebody else from the L.A. area using one and so goes on.....
Wait until somebody decides to disclose that he used an Arion Tubulator. Then everybody else can throw on ebay the ones they got from "Musician's friend" blowouts for $12 and get 10 times that!

aron

Well, the Arion does have a distinct sound (to me). Michael Landau and Scott Henderson use it. So if you like their tone, then you can get their chorus sound. I think it's cool, but I'm not sure it's the greatest chorus sound. I am still using the Fab Tone chorus.

m-theory

I had one when they were new, and liked it alright, but not nearly as much as the 70's yellow MXR stereo analog chorus that I'd had before it.

Michael Landau- that's who I was thinking of.

The cult of personality surrounding famous players and their gear never ceases to amaze me.
