MAX1044 max voltage: paranoia?

According to the sims 4.7p would give you close to 40 kHz which clearly would be in the bat range.  ;)
(7p should give slightly above 50 kHz, 10p close to 100 kHz).
With 4.7-7p you also shouldn't loose too much voltage at higher loads (see data sheet).

This is great info. Thanks! (Apparently, one of the skills I need to work in is reading a data sheet.)

Hope the sims are correct. Since it's a simulation model by Linear and I'm using their software I'm pretty confident that clock frequencies should be very close to reality.

I bet this trick of adding a small cap between pins 2 & 7 would work equally well to raise frequency of the ICL7660 and similar devices that have no pin 1 boost capability, in order to run them above 10 kHz.
