I don't think anyone will be mad that I quoted these.

I tip my hat to you sir, your penmanship is outstanding. I really dig the soma's art work as well.

I can't write for crap... especially on enclosures since I got shaky hands. But I'm gonna grab some paint pens and practice, practice, practice. You've given me the drive to get better at this... thank you.

Thanks for making this thread as well Mark... came just on time.

thanks :)

want a trick that will help you write more effectively on a stompbox ?

the thing that makes your hand shaky is because you have to write on an elevated surface...the top of the box....if you take a second box and place it beside the one you want to write on, you can use it for a hand rest...that way youre writing at the same level as your hand... :)

I've tried using my left hand to support my right... but it never really worked very well since I work better when I'm holding what I'm drawing/writing on. I think I'll try that suggestion next time.

Do you take your time with the lettering... by that I mean do you go extremely slow? Cause I find I'm messier when I go really really slow... and when I go faster my lines are better and less "wobbly" but I usually over shoot and go further then I should or I don't go far enough and when I try to fix it I make it worse.

I write quickly.....

what I do is do a couple of "practice" times of writing the words....a sheet of paper with the dimensions of the stompbox marked works fine....if you practice a few times, your hand gets used to how large to make the letters.....then once i have the "sizing" memorized, i just  go ahead and do the lettering....

QuoteNice work Paul. I like the Yellow. Gotta pick me up one those.

What did you paint the box with - the black? I've been using spray on truck bed line just for the durability. I was having problems with paint chipping. Did you get it to bond well?

It's just a few coats of flat black spray enamel. The lettering is actually a gold paint pen, might look a little yellow in those pictures, though.

I use a book off of my bookshelf to support my right hand while lettering. Takes a little getting used to, but it works pretty well for me.  :icon_cool:

Paul, I dont know if you saw what I do, but I use a second enclosure of the same size to support my hand...keeps everything level as if it were on a table.

The gold on black lettering looks cool, BTW....

I use a Alps MD-1000 printer, which prints white, silver and gold on clear water slide decals perfectly.
It also prints black and regular colors.

The book I use is roughly the same height as the enclosure I am lettering.

You can get a special type of tape for Brother/Dymo label makers that prints white on clear.
Here's one in action: https://taweber.powweb.com/weber/minimass.htm
You can see the white/clear label on the back of the MiniMASS. That's done with a Brother label maker and the special tape.

Has anyone recently looked at rubber stamps to stamp paint - of whatever color - from a layer rolled out on a piece of glass with a brayer?

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

PM - that's a very cool look.
Maybe it's time to enrol in a calligraphy class (or take boxes to a calligraphist).

I used those pens (or their ancestors) back in the late 1970s for a research project that marked leaves on sorghum plants.  The marks lasted 100 days in the Queensland (like Texas) sun and rain on a flexible leaf !

If you could get a stamp that would let you select letters to form different words it would be awesome. I'm imagining something like those ones librarians use for dates. I think 5 characters would be enough for most simple labeling and then have one or two fancy custom stamps for the brand logo. It just seems like it would be way too expensive to have individual stamps made fore each word you might use on a pedal. Especially since you can get a silk-screening kit for about $50.

It helps that I did board drafting for five years, so I had to get block lettering down.

Custom made rubber stamps are not that expensive.  Especially if it's only lettering.  You could get by with a few key words like gain volume etc.  I think I might give this a try

All of the office supply places around here carry DIY stamp sets. The selection of fonts and sizes is ... only one. Other than that, it's awesome.

It's $2-$5 per stamp in the single word sizes, last time I bought them.

Ah... the comment of someone who's never done silk screening. Silk screening is a tremendous amount of work. The results are good if you do it well, and it can be reused, but it's slushy, sloppy, messy and takes a lot of setup and work.

I'd personally rather have a $12 logo stamp plus six or so one-word stamps than a silk screen kit.

WAIT! I already have a silk screen kit! (slaps forehead) But you know, I'd still rather buy the stamps than do that again. :icon_biggrin:

Does anybody make stamps that can use paint instead of ink? OR, has anyone tried using an ink stamp with paint. I think it would look better if it was paint instead of ink.

Someone posted this link before in answer to a similar post. I feel it was somewhat overlooked so here it is again. For a modest outlay, this has to be the holy grail for short run, light on dark graphics. It also does metallic finishes on almost any type of surface and doesn`t appear to suffer from those ugly seams that other techniques like water decals exhibit.

There`s also a system for making PCB`s.

No, I don`t work for the company.

Wow, thanks! I'm gonna have to save my pennies - that looks perfect. I already have a heat gun and laminator, so I guess I'm pretty well set.

While, of course, they recommend their own proprietary laminator they have given a list of laminators that will or wont work with the system.

Paint marker....just like everything else, you just have to PRACTICE.

Hmm... none of the gallery links work anymore. Must've been an upgrade to the gallery or something. This is a pain when searching through old threads - only now to find dead links.

While my GF was searching around youtube for misc. arts and crafts stuff. I overheard talking of stamps, and I remembered this thread

Has anyone actually tried this techniques yet? I found some videos that might spark some creativity and ideas for some of you.
