Stompbox for Bass? Can anyone recommend one to build?

Greetings all,

Can anyone recommend a good sounding DIY stompbox for bass?  I have no idea what I want, but the bass player in my band is starting to feel left out since I've built stuff for myself and our other guitar player.

Great cheddar with a boost (microamp would work fine) on the input is a killer bass distortion.  A couple local bassists bought some off me, after being frustrated with the sound of their boss distortions, and are still telling me how much they like the sound  It seems to have no loss of low end with the stock tonestack, and to work in the mix with a full band going. 

A great alternative to distortion for bass that adds some weight/heaviness is an octave down, the plain old boss OC-2 seems to work well, here's a DIY friendly version (the schematic should reappear in the thread when the galleries get sorted out):

I'm basically as dumb as a rock when it comes to building pedals, so bear with me while I ask a few questions...

1.  What is Great Cheddar?  Is that a DIY pedal?
2.  If I understand correctly, the booster output would feed the input of the Great Cheddar, correct?

Hi, the great cheddar is a lovetone Big Cheese work-alike, it is at Geofex.com.  It is a lot more complicated than the bazz fuss though.

You got it, you would just hook the output of the booster up to the input of the fuzz, like you would hook two pedals together.

I think the sound samples of Mark Hammer's Grunt Box sound great. That's the one I want to try.

i built a muff fuzz with a blender for my bass player. not a skull crushing distortion of death but, it makes for great bass harmony types of things.

Man... I built Ross Compressor for my bass and it's just great! Perfect for Slap and Taps, when you need regularity on the notes!

There is a thread over here, that I made, talks about Bass Driver DI... A nice DI with Amp Simulation! I didn't built it yet, but some guys made the layout and they're testing it...

Did you look at the Bazz Fuss that I suggested ?

I recommended it SPECIFICALLY because I know you're new to the hobby...

+1 on the bazz fuss and here is a pretty simple blender if you want to try it, http://www.geocities.com/jrtookmyfalseteeth/buffblnd.gif. i know someone here has a layout for it, i just forget who.
