what does square pad mean ?

It's the (+) side of the Electro Cap.  :)

As shown in the layout you reference......

For C3, the square pad is on the top, or 12 o'clock position.
C4, the pad is on the right, or the 3 o'clock position.

Are you sure about C4??? It looks logical that the + going to the left side

Just take a look, the square pad is on the right.  You can also tell the shading of C4 if you look carefully enough.

The + side of C4 goes to the junction with C5, which is to the right.

Thanks everybody
So if I decide to go with that layout http://www.aronnelson.com/gallery/v/MarkMs-Gallery/album15/album76/AMZ_MiniBooster_LAYOUT_001.gif.html?g2_imageViewsIndex=1
it would be, for C3 the square pad is on the left, or 9 o'clock position
C4, the pad is on the right, or the 3 o'clock position.

Right ?

I think the square bads are, in both cases (c3 and c4), on the right side - 3 o´clock..  :icon_eek:

yeah, that's the way.
I just got confused, and I guess I was confusing markm...

Thanks

After looking inside the schema it looks like

C3 it's obvious that (-) to the ground
C4 is 3.3uf NP

nooneknows

for guitar use I've found an interesting value od .68uF for C3, this eliminate the problem with the polarity too.
it reduces a bit the bass side, the sound is still full but the overdrive of the following stage is much more pleasant to my ears.
A matter of taste, of course
