I swapped the stock LED on the pedal and put in a 5mm Blue LED instead. I removed the zener diode and replaced it with a jumper as I read this in another post here. However, the LED always stays on now. When the pedal is off it's slightly blue (not completely off but enough to confuse if its on) and when the pedal is on the LED is SO BRIGHT it blinds me. Do I need to change another part as well or something????? Thanks

I know I read about this in another post not too long ago. I'll have a bit of a search and see if I can find it for you.

well.... this is really stumpping me. For the life of me i cant get this to work the right way. I'll try another extensive search here but, if anyone could shed some light i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

well after some experimentation i found out that neither R9 or R10 effect the LED in the off position but just the on position. I can't believe I cant really find anything on here or on the web. Im not good at reading schematics so that would be a MIGRANE WAITING TO HAPPEN!!!!!! still if anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

I don't have the schem with me, why did you need to remove the zener diode?

Either way, i'm 95% sure you can get around the problem by putting a suitable resistor in series with the Blinding Blue LED. I have those too. Try a 4.7kohm resistor and work yourself up or down if it's too bright/not bright enough.

thanks bluearrk but, the brightness is not the problem, its when I try to switch off the pedal. When the pedal is off the LED still stays on. Its nowhere near as bright as when the pedal is on but, i would like for it to turn completely off.

Sounds like the purpose of the zener diode was to prevent this problem you're seeing. Try putting it back and see if that fixes it.

Ok i'm looking at a DS1 schem I have. There are 3 ways I can think of doing this:
1. Put back the zener diode. See how bright your 5mm blue is. If it's not bright enough, look for the resister in series with the zener diode and the led. Replace with a lower value.
2. Leave the resistor alone. Replace the jumper with a 4.7V Zener instead. The old one was 5.6V if i'm not wrong.
3. Don't bother with either. Do what I originally suggested and replace the jumper with a resistor. If it's so dim that you can't see it when it's ON, then for all purposes it's OFF isn't it?  ;)

Well, I got the LED to work!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was my own dumb fault I guess. After looking for the resistor in sereies with the diode I replaced it and still no luck. So, I just decided to give up and for some reason I put the original resistor back and the zener diode I had removed in the begining and UREKA!!!!!!!!! It works now. Maybe i had the LED backwards in the begining before I removed the zener.?????? Either way it works. Thanks to the guys who posted here for the help.
