Hundreds, and I'll make more of my own if needed?

what do you want to sound like.

What parts and resources are available?

Tube? Squalid state?

Cheap? Money no object?

Lots of gain, or clean and simple to take your pedals?

you can build a pretty good sounding amp useing a basic power amp IC like the LM3886 which will put out up to 65w into 4 ohms or 50w into 8 ohms and just put a simple tone controll curcuit in front of it and a bypassable overdrive curcuit in front of that....that is how i built my first guitar amp and it still use it as my go to practice amp and it sounds awesome and was as cheap as hell to make accept for the speaker which was the most expensive part.....I was able to scavange most of my Parts (big filter caps and 100vA transformer, chassis) from stuff I had laying arround and I etched my own PCB"s so it was quite cheap overall to make......

the LM3886 datasheet has a curcuit on building the basic power amp and you can just put any pedal you want in front of it, i think i even still have the PCB design for my amp if you want it.....

Cheers

GGG has a board for the 3886/3876 amp

Hmmmm.... I have a couple 3886s, and a big heatsink, and a big honkin' transformer that came out of an old Sansui integrated amp... Hmmmmm... :icon_wink:

That's probably most of it !
I used an ONKYO honker of a tranny and had 2 amp units per tranny.
First thing I'd do is get safety and then check the transformer to see if it looks like [again,.probably does] it puts out AC voltage you can convert to a usable DC.
Tricky part [besides building / debugging the amp] is mounting the stuff so it's like 'tidy or portable at least.

Yes,I need that PCB!You have here my adress.Thanks! :)

Places like Radio Shack should have kits of that stuff....
Here is Oz there's a 50W kit at Jaycar and DSE, but I'm not sure which chip is in it.

Sooner or later you'll probably want a tube amp.  For 50W SS loudness, you'll want about 5W (maybe 8W) of tube amp power.  The 18W lite is a nice and simple amp if you like the Marshall sound.

:D A 5 watt tube amp isn't that loud. I own 3 or 4, and none of them are particularly loud - not even close 50w SS. I've heard 100w SS that's almost right on par with alot of 50w - 100w tubes. Really dirty ones like old Sunns are the way to go for loud SS.
