I've made two of them. the darn thing bogs down when you blend the clean signal w/too much fuzz. it makes the chords sound like mud.I realize that this is a filtering cap problem. any suggestions would be very helpful.

I made one and have been using it for a few weeks and haven't noticed any problem with fuzz getting "bogged down" when I've got it in the loop. Did you use any substitutions with your projects? What type of fuzz are you working with?

I've noticed phase problems with that type of blend circuit (IIRC the same circuit you are referring to). If it was me, I'd use the same type of clean blend the voodoo lab sparkle drive is using.

there's a phase switch on the splitter/blend.

I've used one for a year with no problems, phase switch should solve "phase" problems
and I have not heard anything 'wierd' from it with either modulation devices or fuzz/OD devices
with which i'm using it as a bass blender.
I would check the build/parts for an error !

I'm thinking of something else then - the circuit I tried out a while back did not have anything like that.

Could be that you built an earlier version.  They revised the return section in 2004 and added the phase switch.
