did you build it?

I am not a fan of that kind of biasing.

youve tried it before??
i was thinking of changing the 10k on Q1 to 4.7k
sorta like the electra dist
hey, wait, its the same first stage as the Saturn Five pretty much then
eep... well, excluding the gain pot

wow, i think this is the first topic ive done that has spawned another page!

oh, and Pumpkin (the user :S), thanks again for that layout thing

Be aware the MPSA13/14 are Darlingtons. this biasing methode will give you a voltage U(CB)* of nothing and will likely result in completely clipping the positive halfwave.
In the second stage the biasing is messed up by the diodes, the BMP has a capacitor in series there.

*)This voltage is equal to the voltage over the 1Meg resistor which is about 0.08V

Some thoughts.. not to be called scientific...

        Fuzz                         <---->                  Distortion
  flat into clipping                              less low end into clipping
lots of compression                             some compression
usually toasted trannies                       usually clipping diodes
post shaping by treble control            post shaping by mid control
association: assymetric/octave          association: symmetric

Overdrive is usually found in a distortion theme with smoother clipper and less gain.
