Hey everyone, long time since my last post... been playing constantly and business is good too so I haven't had much time for diy fun. When time allows I still build and tweak etc etc.

Anyway... I'm about to perf a Dr. Boogey... my layout is based on the gaussmarkov.net (and many of you) build that was discussed in detail here at this thread.

This layout (scroll down) is something I threw together to go by instead of just poke/splash perfing to the schematic/pcb layout and it's not perfect or final.

I would like to get any input I can about this perf version of the layout  prior to melting metal.

Thank you in advance for any comments or suggestions that you may have. <-- aka: the forum reply guilt phrase  :P

Ok.. here are my concerns...

  • lack of guard traces... any suggestions for a pad per hole lover when it comes to big ground areas like we do on pcb?

  • I plan to get very close values for the resistors by parallel/series-ing them because I don't have all of the exact values. In my past builds I've used "close values" with no problem but you know... I heard this is a touchy build..  :-\

... are there any resistors that I should take extra care to match the schematic's exact value on?

  • One more... I plan on using NP electros, greenies and ceramic discs... will this be something that I regret?

Yeah, the layout is big... I'm not going for compact... I have an oversized enclosure etc etc. I want it to sound good and not squeal .. that's about all that matters to me for this build.  I will be careful to keep the wire runs short and shield the I/O.

OK... here it is...

Any thoughts, comments, insults or suggestions will be totally well recieved  ;D  I'll make any necessary changes as I go and I'll post the final verified layout when I'm done so that future perfboarders can bask in high gain glory and oversized enclosure envy with ease...  :icon_eek:

Kindest Regards,

Hey everyone... I went ahead with the build.

With such a large board size it went together with ease... Tonight I'll wire it up and debug.

Here are some photos of my progress...

Looks good to me.   This will be one of my next builds also.  Let us know how it turns out.  The Dr.Boogey and the BSIAB2 have been on my to do list for guite some time.

wow! thats looking great. I know i would love a finalized perf layout with where each pot connects to, plus 9v+, input, output and grounds! thanks for posting this!

FWIW I always use film caps up to and including 1uf. As far as greenies, I honestly can't tell a difference between them and metal film, esp. in od/dist/fuzz circuits, but I'm sure someone will chime in to the contrary.  ;)
Let your ears be your guide, and socket the caps if you feel you might want to change them.
I will quietly resist.

what resistors did you put in place of the trimmers?

I measured the trims and replaced them with nearly the exact values by putting resistors in series... most were around 50k but I didn't note the exact values... I figured that if I change the transistors later that I will have to hook up pots or trimmers to get new values anyway
