R.G.´s Fake Fender/Brownface/Vibratone Layout here

Hi all, I made a layout for the Fake Fender/Brownface/Vibratone schem by R.G. It´s based on MarkM´s layout (check his in his gallery), I tried to make it a little smaller, and to use "straight" traces so that it can be made by etching or perf (although making it with perf will be a challenge, not impossible but not the easiest one). Some resistors are placed "standing up".
The layout is UNVERIFIED, I won´t have time to make it in a while, but I believe it´s correct, so if anyone wants to try it, here it is. If you spot any errors, let me know.
For the schem and parts values, go to www.geofex.com. The correct file there is "FakeFenderVib3.pdf".

Layout:

For etching:

For perf (attention: it´s not exactly like the one above). Just follow the outside dots:

Oh, by the way, what should we call this thing? FakeFenderVib? BrownfaceVib? ErsatzFakeBrownfaceFenderVibroToneTremoloTrebleBassJFETThing? ;D

Comments welcome

How about "Brown Polyester Vibrato"?
This covers the "brown", the "vibrato", and we all know that many textiles can be faked with polyester.

A PM MarkM sent me (hope you don´t mind if I make it public, Mark):

"One thing you forgot to mention in your post is that the circuit you used is not entirely R.G.'s any longer as the last amplifying stage with the volume trimpot is something I added to correct low volume issues and does not appear on any schematic.
   Mark"

I stand corrected. ;D

It's a little too late for that......... :icon_neutral:
I did agree to this being posted without seeing it first.

What is the advantage of this layout over mine?
This layout will have component fit problems.  :-\

Morocotopo

Sorry Mark if making your PM public bothered you, I did it with the intention of making clear to everyone who did what. Since the message was not of a private nature (or so I thought) I considered that it was Ok to make it public. Won´t do it again.

No "advantage" of this over your layout, just another one, made for the following reasons:

Could you be more specific about where you see component fit problems?

Oh, by the way, I realized that the etching image is a bit low resolution and doesn´t have a scale on it, I´ll make a better one later and post it.

Morocotopo was a character in a cartoon I watched when a kid, he was the sidekick of a detective squirrell, raincoat and all, he used a "turkish hat" (¿fez?)

Ah yes :D. Wasn`t he a mole? Spoke like Peter Lorre if I remember correctly.

yep it was a mole (mole= topo...morocotopo= mole from morocco :P) nice nick..

this layout is verified? how does it sound?

Clarification:
This is the same circuit Markm layed out out with his Brownface vibrato/provibe/vibratone etc. R.G. did the dirty work on it...
It's a "brown face" Fender vibrato work a like bias wiggler vibrato.
Mark made this layout a few months ago. As far as I know only Ulysses and one or two others (other than mark) have built it an reported about it here. He posted sound clips as well. It's supposedly sounds very good.
Mark added the FET output to boost the level since it was reported to be a little less that unity in a couple or folks builds.

I have one almost finished but awaiting the FETs. I'll post clips of it when I've finished.

Oh, now I remember!  You mean "Secret Squirrel".  Lord, I haven't thought of that in...  well, a long time...

Clarification to the clarification:
This IS the same circuit that MarkM layed out.
This layout is NOT the same as MarkM´s, it´s BASED on his, but with some mods. For his, see his gallery.
This layout is UNVERIFIED.
I believe the people that built this schem used MarkM´s layout.
So David, you´re as old as I am... :icon_mrgreen:

Secret Squirrel... ehh.. I mean Morocotopo

Let's see if I can say this right.  "Probably older" would be "probablemente mas viejo"?

Sorry to interupt the Cartoon Network here........ :icon_razz: :icon_lol:

Mods?
It looks like the same circuit with my mods?
Well, anyway......
I see a problem in the areas that the 1uF caps are and some of the areas where the electros are seem a bit "tight".
Unless one uses a vertical trimpot, the trimmer won't fit on the board.
C8-C7-C17-C18-C19-C20 will not fit well using standard size components and the result will be "cramped" board.
It should work but, again it will be tighter than......well, you know! :icon_lol:
Won't the straight & 90 degree traces introduce more noise in this build?
Also, what are the dimensions because it doesn't look very much smaller than the one I made?

It sounds very good!  It almost has a Univibe quality to it.  I would describe it as half univibe, half Tremolo.  It doesn't really seem to have a lot of Vibrato to it, although technically it might be doing some of that.  It is kind of a busy build, but I recommend it nonetheless.  In addition, be aware that you must match two sets of the FET's.  My version was built form Marks layout, not this recent one.

Morocotopo's layout is unverified.
Mine is verified and I think sounds fantastic!
I think many builders are intimidated by the high parts count and the size.
It's a Monster!!  :D
