After I breadboarded the circuit I made some very minor changes.  I used two LM308's and two LED's for clipping which gives a nice high frequency tone overdrive.  Sort of sounds like the RAT with some extra high frequency fuzz.  Maybe using the SPDT to switch the LED's in and out with the 4001's to get the best of both worlds.

OK I've been jammin on this circuit with the yellow Radio Shack LED's.  This thing sounds absolutely awesome.  If you haven't tried it you're missing out on a unique hi-freq harmonic fuzz distortion that really rocks.  This circuit is going to be boxed up no doubt.  I can't say enough about it.  I don't have any fuzz overdrive distortion pedals that sound anything like it.  I might be considered easy to please but I like this one a lot.  Try the LED's with this and turn VR1 for full distortion.  Oh yes you'll need a volume pot at the end for sure.

Does the input going to the non invertung input of the second opamp get mixed in as clean signal?  I'm curious to hear a sound sample (doesn't have to be anything special), because I love the rat, and this looks like it could be even rattier.

I remember building it YEARS ago when I first started with all this, it was in my first ten builds.  I didn't like how loud the clean signal was compared to the fuzztone so I disconnected the clean mix.  It would be nice to have a mix pot to blend in the clean signal - anyone got ideas how to do this?
