My Ginormous Tubescreamer [pics]

Finally finished my ridiculous tubescreamer project.  A while back I decided to mod my tonepad TS, and while looking up some mods to do I stumbled upon Dano Beavis' Screamer Lab (http://www.beavisaudio.com/Projects/ScreamerLab/) and moho mods' Multi Screamer (http://www.mohomods.com/ebay/multiscreamer.jpg) and decided to do my own take on the way-too-big-for-anyone's-good tube screamer.

For the graphics I used a pic of the guts pre-modded.

The mods I did were: 

Clipping:  6 way rotary, 4148 symetrical and asymetrical, 1n34a Ge, 1N4002 Si, LED, and Schottky/MOSFET.  I LOVE the Schottky Mosfet clipping btw, I hadn't heard it until I built this and it RULES.

Hot: Common mod, good for a little extra dirt.

Smooth:  This controls the "shape" of the distortion, takes a little bit of the edge off.  Would work better as a blend type control.

Model: Switches between TS9 and 808.  DOES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!  Tried on several amps, couldn't hear a difference.  A serious waste of a switch.

Fat:  Beefs up the low end.  Makes it good (err... better) for bass.  Using the Hot and Fat mods together with certain clipping styles you can almost get big muff-ish tones.  I said almost.

Opamp:  Switches between a typical 4558 opamp and a lower noise opamp (I used an NTE891, basically same as an LM833) as described on Beavis' site.  Definitely decreases noise on high gain settings, although no audible difference on other settings.  Which begs the question: Why not just use a low-noise opamp all of the time?

Also added a MOSFET booster with a geofex juggler, to either thicken it up with more gain (Boost->TS), or for more volume (TS->Boost).  MOSFET boost + TS = Distortion Bliss.

question, why helium?? is it cause it makes your voice go really high? is it because its a noble gas? or is it cause in its liquid form, its 400 degrees below 0??
