I built a Stage center reverb a while back and I love it.  At the time Mark Hammer replied to one of my questions and mentioned putting an Orange squeezer in the circuit to tame any peaks that might rattle the springs.  I have since built an orange squeezer that is now off my pedalboard and i'm thinking of putting it in the SCR just to see if it adds anything to it.  Hopefully make it a little less ratty sounding at high volumes.  My question is: where in the SCR circuit would it go?  THANKS

Mark Hammer

The intent of the compression is to make the springs behave, not the overall signal.  The full dynamic range will still be available from the dry signal path, but the dynamics of the wet-side will be constrained.  One of the good things about the stock OS is that its recovery time is very fast, making it behave more like a limiter than a compressor, which is perfect for this application, since the intent is to prevent the springs from being "whipped" by any sudden transients.

So, using the GGG schematic as our reference point, the entire OS circuit would be inserted between the output of IC1a and R4.  In some respects, by virtue of having IC1a as a high impedance input buffer, the OS actually ought to behave better.  Note that the OS output level control will serve as a varible drive control for the wet side, which is a useful feature to have.  You can test that the OS is working as it should by measuring the output from the wiper of its level control.

Let us know if you find this adds value to your build, but also let us know if it delivered less than was expected.  Sometimes I have these brilliant ideas that turn out to be less brilliant than originally thought. :icon_wink:

Thanks a million.  I'll get to it this weekend and let you know.
