Need some help.. Making a volume pedal

hey
i want to make myself a pedal that only lower the sound.. that if i put it on the maximum volume it will sound like it's in bypass..
Only volume.. the simpler the better..

  Sounds like you want a standard volume control like
  Signal in
             P
             O  signal out
             T
            Gnd.
  The signal in and signal out would go to the in/out jack tips, and both jacks grounded.
  100k audio pot I guess..or..
  500k or 1meg pot with a small value signal bypass cap ?
  Then hook the potshaft up to a footcontrolled potshaft twister.
