Greater range on the Tonebender mk2 ?

In this thread we were shown how to mix a tonebender and a fuzz face by bypassing the initial boost section of the tonebender circuit via one of several possible switching options:

Now I wonder if it is possible to arrive at approximately the same result by simply widening the Tonebender range in order for it to provide much less fuzz when the dirt knob is turned all the way down. My tonebender starts where the fuzzface leaves off so to speak. What I am after is a very simple pedal which can be adjusted quickly by just turning one knob, for instance with the foot like on the mxr pedals... I suppose this is rather simple, but it would be nice to hear some thoughts from more experienced gentlemen.

Look at the easy face gain control.

Works as a "pre-gain".

Use fixed resistors in place of the "regular" fuzz pots.

If you had a dual gang 1K pot, you could put a 1k from emitter to ground on Q1 with a large bypass cap, same as Q3. That would give you a wider range of gain.

Oh, the other part of the dual pot is the existing Attack control, I should have said. This is the Transistor Crank :).

That's another great idea, Frank.  You're full of 'em!

  Breath of fresh utility !!
I put a 1kL between Q1E and Gnd., this mod adjusts and tames nicely the hashyness amount as well as 'transistor tone', nice job of getting the gain more controllable/under control in my case.
My shelf chose the 47k across the feedback 100k, switchable, again this mod cleans up quite a bit the sound, reducing gain,...right there on the switch, it will be easy to try other values, 47k drops gain a 'goodly' amount.
All in all the ability to utilize this stompbox [IMC] greatly improved, the mods took less than an hour to put in. After comparisons just now with my other Distorters, this one looks like it'll get used a lot at tonights gig...just in time !! [I used it mostly for leads, now it chews on chords smoothly.
Thanks to Frank Clark for sharing the TBMkII '+' mods, box sounds much less 'stifled' and is 'breathing' more easily, greater tonal variety available, +1!

Wow! That's great! I hope someone with drawing skills will put all this stuff into a nice little layout file in the gallery sometime soon!  :icon_biggrin:

Edit:

And Pete; How about a nice little soundclip ?  :icon_wink:

petemoore

Gadzooks, you're right Krinor, i should be able to put out at least a sound clip or two, let's see...there were a few at a site I can't even remember the name of right now...'soundclick' IIRC...long time ago.

You can also put clips in your DIYstompbox gallery, and Aron has set up a MP3 gallery as well.
