It's not really my first, but kits from BYOC don't count!  My 4x10 cabinet is all finished up so now I can move on to my next project...

I'm building a DOD 250 overdrive from a stripboard layout by Ulysses over at DIYstompboxes.  I picked up all the components from a local geek shop this afternoon and I'm just starting now.

Beer... check.
Pizza... check.
Soldering iron... check.
Miscellaneous tools... check.

Let's do this!

if you were in the "geek shop" then you must be a geek ;D good luck on your build mate. i built that box but found it didnt have enough gain for my liking if you find the same thing you can change a few resistors and have an mxr distortion plus.which imo is an awsome box .see how you go just a thought

I just trimmed the board down to size and started cutting the traces.  I used a little drill bit for that and clean up with razor blade.  I'm going to solder the IC socket in the middle of the board as soon as my iron warms up and work my way out from there.

JOHNO

ok just have a beer while the iron warms up

im guessing that your building the grey 77. it looks good im might slap it on a bread board and see how it sounds.ps some caps need to be changed also to make it an mxr but it can be done on that same board, not that im tryin ta change ya mind ;)

I've got one of those electrolytic capacitors and the layout indicates that it's polar.  How do I know which lead is the positive?

JOHNO

the cap should have an arrow pointing to the negative side

OH NO!  I'm missing a 1 meg resistor!  :(  I'm just going to finish it after I get my uber-order from Mouser for all the resistors and caps I'll ever need hehe.  I should probably tack on some extra diodes, sockets, etc. in case I read up on any neat mods in the meantime.

P.S.  Thanks for the tip on the big can electrolytic caps.. I remembered reading it somewhere but it's nice to have a big picture to remind me!

i did the bread board layout of this thing but i put in 1 germanium diode in place of one of the sili ones and its pretty cool.might even wack it on a board and stick it in a box i think. cheers
