Hi all,

Is it possible to use a phototransistor as a clipper ?
I was thinking that since these things are light sensitive it should be possible to place a variable lightsource in the box to interfere with it. If this lightsource was a small lightbulb or a led, it could be put somewhere in a circuit where it would be fed with varying voltage and thus the clipper would change properties somehow..? What would happen ? And how could this be integrated in an ordinary overdrive circuit ?

If you had LED clippers in the same box that might be interesting. I don't know the answer, but I like the question.

I have used optos like 4n25s building effect ideas.

Look at the expandora schematics  there is a FET opto

In my Thunder Alley circuit I use a pair of optocouplers, which have a phototransistor, in a setup similar to that of a fuzz face. Maybe something to begin with.

Thanks Andrew. I'll have a look at that one.
