Has anyone built the MXR noise gate at tonepad?

It says the mods are unverified; has anyone gotten them to work.  I recently fried my boss NS-2 and was thinking of builing one of these with all of the extra controls.  Seems like it would be a suitable replacement.

I am planning on building it, but not for another month; it would be nice to know if anyone has built it and if so, how it is...

Hi
I built it some time ago (2 years?).  I'm not sure if any mods went into it.  It worked fine.
cheers

built it, didnt work. i might try again though.
check out the comments page, they said some modding is required[?]...
Look at it this way- everyone rags on air guitar here because everyone can play guitar.  If we were on a lawn mower forum, air guitar would be okay and they would ridicule air mowing.

I built the Callate gate II with the tonepad pcb and tried all of the mods shown at tonepad as well as trying the effects loop, the frequency selector, and a modified sesitivity control.

I never wrote a build report because it is not boxed up and I never figured out why the sensitivity control, at certain levels, makes the circuit oscillate (procrastination).

the circuit works with a j201
the attack mod with a large value pot does make this act like a 'slow gear'. from some sound clips I've heard it is almost the same.
the effects loop works, as described by Fransisco
frequency selector is found on the newer MXRs and is handy to cut hiss without losing the end of a note, but the transition is abrupt.

Check first your JFET datasheet for orientation, looking at the LAYOUT drawing on the top is G - gate and the middle should be D - Drain and the otherouter pin is S - source.  Tracing this Source connected to a 10uf cap you should reverse the polarity( Looking at LAYOUT again, CAP left side should be + and the right side should be - )
Using 2n5952 is flat side is on the left and should twist the pin of DRAIN and SOURCE as I said middle of the fet should be Drain.(connected to attenuate)
You could use 2n5484 and J201 also need to twist drain and source but the flat side is facing right.

Important thing is use 3904 with 140-160 hfe for smooth attack and release. I also use 2n2222 as replacement I can not find 2n5088 or 2n5089 with low hfe.

Zener diode 5.1v for 2n5952 and J201, 4.7v for 2n5484
IC TL072 is quieter than 4558
500k should be log pot or use 1 meg linear convert into 500k taper on

Attack I use B10k
Release I use B500k
Attenuation I use B100k
R A - 150k experiment with lower 120k-100k maybe

Good luck,
Roger
