I just bought a second hand Fender Hot Rod Deluxe.  They say that changing the speaker in this thing is the best thing you can do to improve the lead channel.
Question is:  I have a Celestion Silver Series 80Watts RMS 8 Ohm.  Could I replace my stock speaker?  The Poweramp rating is 40Watts at 8 ohm... wouldn't that just make me lose lots of power and headroom???

Thanks for the help!

No, it would mean that no matter how far you turn up the volume knob, you won't blow your speaker. I'm not familiar with that particular speaker, but I doubt that it would take more than a watt or two to get full coil movement. You will lose any 'voice coil meltdown' sounds that may be happening at full volume with your current speaker...

I own one, too...do yourself a favor, do the Volume Pot mod (at the least) from Justin Houlton's site:  http://studentweb.eku.edu/justin_holton/

I did most of the mods on there, and the sound is MUCH improved.  Still building a Marshall 18Watt, though...kit's on the way!!!!   :oD
