I'm wondering if anyone uses some kind of buffer/polisher for getting maximum shine on their pedals.

I use polycrylic and it's gets a wonderful clear shine -- but I'm not happy if there are any imperfections, so I use high-end car compound to rub out the little bubbles, etc. However, on a dark paint job, you can still see the difference between the compounded area vs the pure clear coat.

To me, the solution (like you do with car paint) is to polish-out the clear coat -- but I'm not sure what type of polisher to try. Does anyone use one that they could recommend? I tried the felt pad with a Dremel at the lowest speed, but that burns right through the clear... :(

The choice of buffing pad material is important. A 'felt' pad could be made of synthetic fibers. You need a very soft cotton buffing wheel I think - see the polishing pads that come with rotary polishers for car body work - they're like an old English sheep dog. :-)  The pad also needs to be an appropriate size for the piece of work - a dremel head is not really sufficient for an even polish over a single face of an enclosure.
