I don't need the square wave, but a second sine would be nice.

if i only want the sine wave, can i leave out the second stage and the 160K, 10K and 220K? or does the second stage also shape the sine wave? if so, can i modify it to be a second sine wave? with a seperate rate control?

No, you can't do away with anything in that circuit.

If you want simple, build a transistor based phase-shift-oscillator
