i recently built the bazz fuzz  <http://home-wrecker.com/bazz.html> and followed the schematic, but instead of the 100k pot, used a 10k resistor. i tested it before putting it in a case, and what a surprise, it didnt work. i found it does work with the plug about halfway out. any help would be great as i am a complete newb

Step one...be sure your input jack is wired correctly.
On occassion....them tabs may have moved...or even been maufactured differently than the common diagram.
Use a meter from tab to Hot...sl\Seeve (battery connection)...g\Ground.
Look for zero resistance....write down findings.
Or use your eyes & follow the steel (easy way).
Also....sometimes jacks are *bad* (shorted...bent).
And...you may have gotten one with a built in dis-connect switch.
Beyond that...I'm no help...hehe!

why did you put a 10 k resistor??? the 100k pot is  just a volume pot, doest need to be replaced with a resistor

having built the odd one or two bazz fusses I have never had an issue as you describe when using 10k instead of 100k - those usually affect the way the fuzz gates if you know what I mean. It does sound more like you have your pads wired wrong on your input ( I presume your using a stereo socket) Like the previous post check you off board wiring as this little circuit seems to handle many variations and still works great.

Good luck and any problems hit me back

also the 100k log pot is a volume control. You don't actually have to have it connected to make it work . If you add the output socket at the end of the last cap you should get plenty of sound from it.

I hadn't read your post correct and thought you meant the resistor feeding the transistor as it's sometimes 10k and sometimes 100k

I really do think it sounds like you have your wires mixed up on the input

Darlington version uses a 10k at the collector, single a 100k. I recommend to use a 100-250k pot at the collector, set the amp loud and find the point where the background noise is louder, that's the sweet spot. You may hear some scratch when you are closer to that point.

think you might have blown his mind with that mac lol

It really must be the input socket as its connecting on the ring instead of tip.

P.S Learn to play about with this circuit gives you a good understanding on what does what etc and build a buzz box too!

thanks all for help ill check my input wiring, sounds like thats the common mistake
