Hi there,

does anyone know a good compressor pedal to build for bass guitar?
If you have a schematic/pcb that would be great.

Many thanks

Tiruk

Hey man,

I recommend you the Orange squeezer w/ bass mods. Have the pcb/schem on tonepad.
Simple, easy to build and sounds really good.

I second the Orange Squeezer.  I didn't do any bass mods to it and I use it on my bass always.

OS is good (I would even go as far as to call it 'idiot proof'- it does what it does well and ya have a hard time screwing up your tone with it!), but for more versatility, the Ross/Dynacomp is the one I like. Raise the in and out decoupling caps to 1uf or higher and yer good to go with either one.
I am not responsible for your imagination.

Hey guys,
thanks very much for the advising, i guess i'll try to build both of them.

If you get around to building a Zombie Chorus and a Mr.EQ they go together great with the OS on the bass.  That's what I use on my bass rig.

The OS tends to function a wee bit more like a limiter, which is what bassists tend to like.  If you go with a Dynacomp variant, go with the variable recovery mod (changing the 150k resistor to maybe 22k-27k or so), and you'll probably end up with something you like.  A stock Dynacomp/Ross is really geared more at the guitar player who wants to bend a G or B string and hold a bent note for a bit.  A bass player generally just wants a limiter to keep the average signal level steady, rather than assist in sustaining anything.
