I'm just about to re-rack/re-condition and power a pair of Telefunken V676 preamps, which are very
high quality East German built "solid state" mic/line amps from the early 70's.
I need some special 31 pin connectors for the wire-up, which we're not so easy to find but "Conec" have them.
I call and get quickly directed to "Northern connectors" who could supply the items, none in stock and a minimum
order of either 50 pieces/£100 worth .... I need 4 or 5 so it's £10 worth of business....... right ......
They advised me to go back to Conec to see what can be done.
Conec, on hearing the "Telefunken" story ( reason for my requirement ) make a special request to the German
part of the company ( where the goods will be coming from ) and agree to order me in 5 pieces :-)
What a totally professional and polite company, they went out of their way to help me, which envolved at least
5 or 6 phone calls ( yes they called ME back at every stage ) so that's their profit out of the window ... mostly !

Just wanted to express how impressed I am with them and will be writing them a very nice "thank you" letter as
soon as the connectors arrive here .
Gave me a nice "warm" feeling about us humans .....

That's a cool little story Marty!

Sometimes I feel all the stores want is profit. They don't seem to care about their products...just sales sales sales...

But once in a while you come across a 'liefhebber' (dutch word, 'lover', some1 who shares the passion) who happens to have a store. Often I feel, these stores have grown out of a passion (isn't that how Smallbear came to existance?). These stores and people are invaluable!

Thats great Marty. Nice to hear those kind of stories.
I re-racked a couple API 512 pres and some MAP (modular Audio Products...API clones) a while back. Fun stuff.
I had some Spectra Sonics pre cards but I ended up selling them when my studio stuff was put in storage....weep....

Well the Telefunken's arrived, one is racked up and working, yet to add the phantom power
section , but it sounds just AWESOME  :icon_mrgreen:
A very BIG and positive sound, great with a guitar/Bass through it, lovely open top end .
The other one has a problem, probably needs a bit of a re-cap I guess, there's some distortion
to the whole sound, not lots but enough to make it un-useable at the moment ... oh well, there's
no guarantees on Ebay .....
