Made a parapedal

Finally... I've been meaning to do this one for ages.

I made it on perfboard, using the smallest pcb layout that RG made, worked great first time. The only difference was using TL072's instead of the 4558's - thought it was a wee bit quieter.

I also tried lowering C4 to change the frequency range, but didn't like it, it wasn't pronounced enough. I will probably mess about with the values again in C2 and C4 to see if I can get any improvement, if there is anything to be had, although I really like it as it is.

I can't find my camera unfortunately,  :-[ so no gut shots.

I put it in one of these, a "weeper wah" /volume pedal that I bought new from cash generator for £10. The "wah" that I took out was truly one of the worst effects I have ever had the misfortune to use. However, it has proved useful!  I had previously tried to put an Idiot wah into it, but it didn't do anything for me - I probably messed it up.

Anyway, well worth a build if you have a spare wah/volume pedal kicking about - nails Electric Funeral :icon_mrgreen:

You squeezed it into a 1590A - you insane fool!  :icon_mrgreen:

Well this... this is just silly... this can't fit in a 1590B... can it? And you're not even using SMD you mad man!

QuoteWhat the hell does it do?

It's like a wah pedal with massive huevos.  :icon_wink:

Very true  ;D

it has a huge sweep from basically a (very) low pass at heel down, through a kind of almost ring mod type sound to quite a high wah.  if you google Chicago Iron, they have some clips from their clone of it.

The only problem I have is that wah pedal doesn't have the same amount of travel as a normal one, so you have to be a bit more accurate/subtle with the foot.

congrats hanglow, must've been fun to fire it up the first time
the clips i have heard of parapedal always made me smile
my life is a tribute to the the great men and women who held this country together when the world was in trouble. my debt cannot be repaid, but i will do my best.

It sure was!  I have been particularly enjoying Dr Boogey>parapedal for outrageous distorted fun and parapedal>flatline for some nice smooth clean wah action.

If you run across a dead Maestro Boomerang, nab it - it has a longer travel and would probably work good for the Parapedal circuit.

Bump

Just a quick update - changed R12 (10K) to a 47k pot to see if I could change the depth of the wah as it is a bit brutal and therefore not quite as versatile as it could be - 47k was a bit pointless, ended up settling on a 2k4 resistor in series with a 10k lin pot . This gives it a good range from a smoother less deep wah to that ridiculous huge sweep that we all love  :icon_mrgreen: . A recommend mod I would say. Maybe even a 1k in series with the pot would be better.

I'm looking to build a Parapedal, do you have some sound clips?

Congrats on your build

Hanglow

No unfortunately not  :(

but there are some here of chicago irons version, which give you a good idea what it is like

If you do the R12 mod then the depth can be less
