Hey All,

I'm wanting to wire a mini toggle switch to change between two input caps.  Small Bear has a bunch of different SPDT switches. Which one of these should I choose?

How would I wire this?  This is a booster pedal and I want to be able to toggle between  a 0.1uf input cap and an 0.047uf input cap.

i believe that they are basically the same switch just different makers. as for wiring with either of those switches, you would put one leg of each the caps on the outer lugs of the switch. then a wire from the center lug would go to the circuit. the remanding free legs of the caps would get connected together and run to the board.

I usually use DPDT switches for cap switching.  I'm sure you can do it another way, but it's easier for me to visualize the wiring with these switches.  The wires form either side of the cap that you;re changing go to the two middle lugs, then each of the caps are wired between each of the other two lugs on either side of the middle lugs.

The second switch has a "center off" position, you don't need that, go with the first one and wire it as foxfire mentioned.

Its called 1PDT switch: 1 Pole Double Throw. 1 pole in the center leg (usually), and it throws (shorts) to either leg. Use your DMM and see which leg is shorted to another and different switching position. By this way, it would be easier for you to understand how the switch work. You can always use this method in more advanced switch type: 2PDT. 3PDT. etc...

Thanks for the knowledge on the switch types. I ended up order both types of switches.  I ordered the "On-On" switch and the "On-Off-On" switch.  I'll find use for the other one one day.  Do you any of you know where there's a pages that describes all of types of PDT switch and how they work and are wired?  I've seen seen RG Keen's page describing switches (http://www.geofex.com/FX_images/stompsw.gif), but that's only a few.

Anyways, thanks for all the help.  Everyone on this forum has been so helpful and understanding of beginner builders like me.

Thanks,

Shaun

Have you checked DIY FAQ?
Tons of info inside. See point no.6 for switching.
