I was about to order these, but why are they $.03 ea, when everything else I see on Mouser is $.15 or more? Am I overlooking something on the data sheet? I just want to get standard 1/4w common stompbox values.

Sorry for another thread about buying parts, but I can't figure this one out.

They seem ok to me. I use metal film resistors from Futurlec, they're $.02 each and they work fine.

Ever had any trouble with Futurlec orders? I've heard they can take a while.

bigger Futurlec orders take longer, I've found. Almost 3 weeks for stuff in a box, while stuff in a jiffy bag/ envelope comes within 10 days or so. The low price more than makes up for slow shipping if you're not in a hurry. If you are, go elsewhere!

Ok. Thanks guys. I'll probably grab what I need right away from Mouser and then do a Futurlec order to restock my bench.

I ordered from Futurlec last week and my order arrived today. I've ordered from them 5 or 6 times and I've only waited more than a week once. I've had orders in boxes and jiffy bags and haven't seen a difference in wait time.

I did one order, a big one, and it came really quickly, despite me living in Sweden and it being around Christmas time!

The only problem was a hold-up in customs because there was no labelling on the box, which I guess was their fault at Futurlec, but I just scanned and emailed my order and a printout from my internet bank to the customs people and it was sweet.

I would love to support smallbear and Aron and so forth, but I am a beginner and I need to buy so much stuff just to get a stockpile on the go that it is not feasible for me to order from guys that do the hard yards for our hobby.

If you are a manufacturer in Australia & buy wholesale, they drop to about 1c US each in lots of 1,000. But that is very expensive compared to surface mount resistors :icon_wink:

Why are metal film caps better than regular film caps?

Does Small Bear sell metal films?  I just made a big order there and some smaller orders at Mouser and PPP (and of course realized I STILL forgot to get a few things - DOH!!!), but I didn't get any metal film caps.  Just the "plain" film caps.

Thanks.

Metal film caps are quieter, have better temperature coefficients, and are typically more precise (1% or better rather than 2%).

Well, for anyone who's interested, Futurlec and Mouser both shipped my order on the same day. (I ordered Sat. Night, both shipped on Monday) Not sure about their locations, but we'll see which one arrives first.

That particular one has a TCR of 100PPM/C, the other two 0.25watt Koa metal films are 50PPM/C. That is the only difference that I saw. Not sure if that makes a big difference in the circuits we typically work with, though.

Mouser arrived next day! (Usually takes 2 days). Futurlec order arrived 10th day (they said 7-10). Both were shipped USPS to North Alabama.
