I've been trying to use my dad's office printer (my only laser option), and for the life of me I can't get a decent layout printed on it.
What seems to happen is the toner adheres to the photo paper and then at some point it rubs against the rollers or some other plastic inside the printer, causing it to streak down the page. I've tried both HP and Canon photo paper so I doubt thats the problem.

Should I seek out another printer?

edit - Also, it is a newer HP laser if that means anything.

Check that the paper type is set as 'photo' or 'glossy' in the printer setup - not sure if this causes the exact problem you're seeing (never tried it without!) but I'm told that it's important...

The only options I had to chose paper types was for different thicknesses. Nothing to do with paper type.

I just got done doing a ton of research on this b/c mine is doing the same. Typically it's either the toner cartridge needs replaced (especially if you use cartridge refills), or the drum needs cleaned. OR there is toner deposited in the rollers somewhere that needs to be cleaned or replaced. Could also be the fuser. I couldn't solve mine (haven't replaced the $80 cartridge yet) so I'm off to kinkos. Good luck!
If it ain't broke...   ...it will be soon.

Do the copies on standard office paper look ok?

Yeah they come out fine.

Actually, right after I put photo paper through it, the next copy gets some toner smudges. But a copy or two after that and it's fine again. It's almost like the toner is rubbing the photo paper onto an internal part of the printer. I might have a lead on a free laser printer someone can get me. It's an Oki Okipage 8w, anyone have good luck with these?

Just thinking - is it laser printer-specific glossy paper, or Inkjet-specific?  Never know, it might make a difference...

i'd say seek another printer. i know what you are talking about. i have three laser printers, and only ONE of them (the oldest) is any good for printing on clear plastic and PNP etc.  i use my old lexmark for doing that. i also have a colour HP and a cannon which just waste my money when i try to print PNP etc. ):

i've tried playing with the settings without much help.
