I like those sean k.

One looks like a Sputnik-era satellite and the other looks like something one could wear on one's head a la the movie 'Signs'.

Hi! This is my OCTOPSU :icon_mrgreen:

Relatively quick&dirty leftovers build of 10/17VDC PSU for my pedals (I've build it some time ago, but today I've added "eyes" so I've made few shots as well :))

Enjoy, T.

Hello All,

These peculiar stomboxes are not only funky but also funny as well - it's not so easy to do so - very good ideas here !

I have made some - with less originality, I must confess - but the goal was the same.

Here are my Tin-Box pedals (Si and Ge fuzz, booster, overdrive...) :

This one is a little more strange as it uses a C-114 WWII Signal Corp. box (8mm thickness die-cast zamak enclosure).
I called it the Sbrodj Fuzz - it's a modified version of the Shin-Ei FY-2, with an additional output stage :

A+!

That Octopsu is FANTASTIC. The name, the design, everything.

The Sbrodj Fuzz is really cool too.

Yes - the OctoPSU reminds me a Trilobite, from the mesozoic era - good idea, indeed !

I love the OctoPSU - but I am going for something a little more conspicuous.  Imagine building this into your pedalboard:

This is the Low-voltage supply.  And yes, voltage is set by a variac:

And the rear view:

And if you are operating a tube stompbox (and I don't mean Tube Screamer), this is the high-voltage supply, also with voltage set by variac:

And the rear view.  Sort of reminds me of "Gunga Dinh" by Kipling

"The uniform he wore
Was nothing much before
And rather less than half of that behind"

And here's the kicker:  I got these power supplies for $5 each!  I am a member of the London Vintage Radio Club (London Ontario, not London England) and I picked this up at one of the annual fleamarket sales.  They had come from a vocational school where they were used as teaching aids.  I need fuses for the HV supply and a line cord for the LV supply.  Just don't let your fans storm the stage and change the variac settings!

these are simply great and I'm thinking about using my cat's food cans for tiny projects.
  :icon_mrgreen:
the only problem is how to close and shield the bottom without doing a mess... how did you do it?

Fishface

You can buy plastic lids for putting on half-finished cans of food or whatever - that'd dp the trick - check out a local hardward store  :)

neurino

Well I thought at plastic caps but wanted something more resistant...

I was thinking about straightening and resoldering the orignial cap in 2 or 3 points ;D maybe preventing led & holder from melting down somehow  :icon_mrgreen:

I thought I had posted these pics already in this thread, but guess not...

Hi neurino & Fishface,

The caps used in my TinBoxes comes from other tinboxes or glassboxes, like coffee (in France : Ricoree, Malongo), mustard (Maille), baby food, etc... Thanks to a rather good normalisation in the tin box diameter sizes, you can often find the matching cover. Sometimes you have to wander in the supermarket... You should easily find a suitable cover for the Gourmet box, indeed. A nice + in the formula : replacing the battery is instantaneaous (more easy than soldering a metal cap - forget it if it's aluminum, indeed).

In fact, plastic caps doesn't lack resistance, as they are underneath and doesnt support any effort, and if you need some shielding, simply put an alu or brass foil glued in it. The resistance problem comes from the tinbox itself, as they are not intended for that use and last longer than the product they have contained inside : I mean that this kind of enclosure is not suitable for "heavy feets"... Otherwise, you should reinforce it with an underneath metal disc - but if you are a "reasonable foot stomper" then simply a large washer around the FSW should be convenient.

A+!

Great score. Over here we call those events Ham-fests, and they're great for cool, old and funky electronics. Great source of used bench equipment like those. Have a blast experimenting.
