that competely cleared things up brett! thanks!
im gonna give this thing a shot... but i be using two low hfe rf transistors to obtain the 10000  :icon_eek: hfe of the mpsa13!
Look at it this way- everyone rags on air guitar here because everyone can play guitar.  If we were on a lawn mower forum, air guitar would be okay and they would ridicule air mowing.

Ca anybody verify this pcb?  ;D

It looks like it has errors...

Q1 is 180 degrees from where it needs to be

Q2 has no connection for the collector

I didnt go through the rest

Yeah, those seemed fairly obvious. Do you have a pcb design of your own of this?  ;D

Dragonfly,
your clips are very impressive, actually an "old school" sound as you've mentioned.
Could you please describe the whole chain - from guitar to the PC sound card?
Thanks in advance.

that clip was done quickly...

335 ---->line 6 toneport (clean marshall sound)

the uneffected sound is at the beginning of the first clip for reference. :)

I like the fuzz!
But when I saw the topic heading, I was wondering, "where does this guy get off posting about my wife?"
I tell ya', I don't get no respect.

But seriously, folks... you do give great fuzz, Andrew. Can't wait to build this--it really does appear to be idiot-proof ;D, and I probably already have the parts.

you silly man, read the post! i mention that though the layout doesn't show it, the pcb artwork has a trace to ground for that unconnected tranny leg. also, i did guess at the pinouts on the trannies, but i'm confused, after checking the common pinout of the transistor it looks right to me??? i could be wrong though...

I think he means the first transistor is reversed. At least, thats how it looked to me.

sorry bout that...

the mpsa13's I have are the same pinout as the 2n3904's...

KindaFuzzy

I breadboarded this the other night and it sounds great, really clear and defined for a fuzz.  I did make a couple of mods, first was the 2n3904 was switched for a 2sc281 that I had from an old radio, sounds much better.  Second was switching the 220k resistor for a 100k pot with a 27k resistor in series for a variable gain control, this gives much more distortion.  I also tried the fuzz face fuzz control by using a 1k pot instead of a resistor on the emitter of the mpsa13 with the bypass cap on the wiper, and worked about the same as the 100k pot for controlling the fuzz.

next to try is messing with the cap values, and maybe seeing if I could get an NPN germanium transistor to work in the second position.  Good work mr. dragonfly, I like seeing other peoples designs.

yep...i set up a similar gain control :)

it will.  ;)

I know its kind of late for this but I just wanted to add my 2ยข worth. I'm normally more of a distortion/overdrive type of guy but that really sounds good!

Haha, I've already had my fair share. Not touching any of that stuff anymore. 100% alcohol/drug clean rules  ;D

Will any other darlingtons work in this layout besides the MPSA13? For example a TIP120.
