You can use small litium batteries @3V like this ones and pack them together to get 3x3=9V.

Yes, solderman : it is a good idea "to save room" in the 1590A that I already thought about, but not tested it... Why ? I think that this kind of battery is just able to power one 2N3904 and nothing more, with a questionable battery life expectancy and moreover at a much higher cost than the standard 9V battery. But I may be wrong : have you got some experience about powering stompboxes with such batteries ?

As I posted earler
I used it with a Fuzz Face. I have not used it much so I cant really say something about the battery life time but it works.

A  CR 2016  (Ø20,0x1,6) is 3V and  mAh

Thanks solderman.

Anyway, the "CR 2016 x 3" idea is to be considered and to be tested, simply because it saves a lot of place compared to a 9VDC Std batt. If it worked with a FF, then probably a lo-pwr.  single 2N5457 booster should gave good results in terms of batt. life duration : I will dig it. Wait and See...

There are standard 12 volt tubular batteries that are very small.  I have one in the car alarm keyfob.  Mine is an Energizer A23 which is 1.14 inches long by 0.4 inches diameter and may be able to power a small effect like a single FET amplifier.

tubelectron

Thanks amptramp for the suggestion.

I found that the cost in France for an Energizer A23 is around 5 euro ( 6-7 USD), around the half for a battery holder, and this seems not to be an esoteric model. So it's a very good alternative to the classic 9VDC. I'll look further.

I get them locally at Sayal (in the Toronto area) for $2.  If your current drain is very light, they should be OK.

i used one of those to power a ruby in a small enclosure. they work great
freedom is the freedom to say 2+2=4

Well, the A23 batteries are cheaper in Toronto than in Paris : let's face this awful drama...

Thank you guys for your advices and suggestions on battery compactness.

Hi
Finally found time to build the MXR phase 90. I discovered and corrected a trace error at IC3 so now the layout is corrected and verified. I'm not going to box this build since I did not have any 2N5457 in stock and used 4 not that well matched 2N5485. It does not sound as good and swoooshy as my Tonepad build with matched 2N5457 and I had to jumper around the trace error. But this is what it look like "inside".

And here is the parts layout and PCB transfer

awesome job!

always wondered, where do you get those cool MKT caps? :D
Are those that rare in the US? They're MKS btw, MKTs look a little different.
I'm living in Germany and they're the cheapest ones you can get here (about 0.12 - 0.50 Euro a pice) aside from those super cheap crappy caps...

solderman

Thank's

As dune2k wrote They are all over the place her in Europe and you can probably get them down under as well.

check out  this, 2 EU and one US

Today I found a pack of 2 A23 Energizer batteries for 6,25 Euros at the local supermarket : compact, cheap and even not rare. That' what I will use to power my release to come in a 1590A box.

Thanks again for your infos,

ah i see. thanks solderman. i don't think smallbear has them as i've never been able to see them... i guess i'll need to bight the bullet and get some from banzai or something (:

Hi I posted this in the Pictures thread but  this might be a more suitable place. ;D

This is the supreme compressor "Diana Ross".
It's a layout that will build both the MXR Dyna Comp and the Ross Compressor. All fitted in a small box. Of cause it will fit in whatever bigger box as well. The layout is based on the schematic found on Tonepad but what I understand it is stock. I made some mods suggested by Mark Hammer (see fuzzcentral.com)   The tin can is a NOS mojo CA3080 OTA made in India, that I by mistake ordered from Small bear in stead of a DIL8 but I think it looks cool.
